TEDx event showcases the Graduate School's innovation and creative thinking

This year, the research areas featured included human geography (GIS mapping), gravitational waves and flexible electronics.

A number of PhD students were involved, including Phil Nicholson from the School of Geographical and Earth Sciences who made over 50 GIS tote bags with members of the TEDx audience. Phil said of the event: “At TEDx Glasgow, MAKlab helped me to produce tote bags with a design related to my PhD project. It was a great opportunity to practise talking about my research. Having some free merchandise for my project is also really cool.”

The event – the purpose of which is to allow people to share ideas and establish areas for working together - also featured a presentation from Dr Ravinder Dahiya from the School of Engineering, on his work to allow robots to become touch sensitive (and animated) through the use of bendable electronics. It was a huge success for the University and the Graduate School hopes to be involved in 2017.
